Filed under: Eagles, NFC EastAt the deadline, a deal was made. The Philadelphia Eagles and running back Brian Westbrook agreed to a three year, $21 million contract.
“From the first day I was able to represent Brian and the paper work was officially filed, we worked aggressively with the team to try to make something work,” France said from his office in Georgia. “We tried to get very creative and find a structure that would allow us to get something done while still dealing with the rules that were in place.”

Neither France nor the Eagles would disclose the terms of the deal, but a source close to the situation said there is $13 million in new money. The source said that $13 million in the first two seasons is guaranteed and that Westbrook will make $21 million over the next three seasons. The source said that there are escalators based on playoff appearances and individual performance that could increase Westbrook’s salary to $24 million.
The new deal is a revision of a deal Westbrook signed in 2005 … though it adds three years with high base salaries to get around the uncapped seasons. He has been one of the best running backs in the NFL over the past two seasons and wanted to be paid as such.
