Eagles defensive end Chris Clemons was taken to a Lehigh Valley hospital this morning after leaving the training camp practice field with heat-related dehydration, Josh Barnett of the Philadelphia Daily News is reporting.
According to the report, the 6-foot-3, 240-pound Clemons was carted off the field and given intravenous fluids. inside the fieldhouse. He appeared conscious as he left the field.
About an hour later, an ambulance arrived to take Clemons to the hospital. The ambulance pulled out at 11:27 a.m., preceded by an unmarked police car and followed by a white SUV in which Eagles coach Andy Reid and director of security Butch Buchianco were riding.
The health and safety of players at training camp — especially big players on hot days — has come under increased scrutiny in recent years following the 2001 heat-related death of Vikings offensive lineman Korey Stringer.
UPDATE: Clemons has been released from the hospital and is back at training camp.
