Eagles Notes: Banged-up Runyan still plans on starting
Eagles Notes For Jon Runyan , the walk from the shower to his locker yesterday was slow and with a noticeable limp, and this was after he sat out practice for the third consecutive day.

It looked as if his amazing streak of 189 consecutive regular-season games was in jeopardy because of a banged-up left knee, but the Eagles' 35-year-old offensive tackle said he's played with worse injuries and indicated he would be ready tomorrow night when the Cleveland Browns come to Lincoln Financial Field.

"I practiced on Wednesday, but it hurt a little more than expected," he said. "So we did it backward this week - practice early, then rest it."

Runyan's streak is the third-longest among active players in the NFL, behind the Jets' Brett Favre (266) and Tampa Bay linebacker Derrick Brooks (205). Runyan and Tra Thomas have started 131 games together, the most by a pair of Eagles tackles in team history.

Runyan's pain threshold amazes his teammates. Last season, he fell in an ice tub and cracked his tailbone, yet he continued to play, even though it pained him to sit down.

"He's a gladiator," center Jamaal Jackson said of his 6-foot-7, 330-pound linemate. "He's one of those guys who's going to play, no matter what."

Runyan's contract is up after this season, and it's questionable whether the Eagles will re-sign him. He said yesterday that he hoped to remain with the Eagles, and sounded like he's not considering retirement.

"I haven't talked to anybody" about re-signing, he said. "I haven't even talked to my agent since, I think, September. I'm going to play."

Runyan said the streak "doesn't cross my mind, because the way I approach it is I go out there every week, no matter what, to get on the field. I've done some things that most people wouldn't play through, so this [the knee] isn't any different."

Runyan added that he'll play until his body tells him he can't take it anymore. Apparently, his body wasn't telling him that yesterday. If it was, he wasn't listening.

"Of course," he said when asked if he wanted to stay with the Eagles. "But my window is small at this point."

Westbrook rests Running back Brian Westbrook was held out of yesterday's practice. Coach Andy Reid said he wanted to keep him off the turf at their indoor practice field to prevent Westbrook's knee from swelling.

"He practiced [Friday] and did well, didn't have any swelling," Reid said.

Reid said guard Shawn Andrews made progress last week while rehabilitating his back. Andrews, who hasn't played since mid-September and had surgery to repair a herniated disk Oct. 21, doesn't appear close to playing. But Reid has refused to put him on injured reserve, probably holding out hope that Andrews can play if the Eagles make the playoffs.

Buck back With Correll Buckhalter , Westbrook's backup, scheduled to return after missing two weeks with a sprained medial collateral ligament in his knee, it's likely the Eagles will dress Kyle Eckel as the third tailback and deactivate Lorenzo Booker .

"I haven't made that decision yet," Reid said.
