Eagles Notes: Eagles' Cole will be watching scoreboard
Eagles Notes Trent Cole is going to glance at the scoreboard tomorrow afternoon at FedEx Field.

He's going to check to see if the San Diego Chargers beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers down in Florida at 1 p.m., and he's going to follow the progress of the Minnesota Vikings' game against the Atlanta Falcons up in Minneapolis.

"I am going to look," Cole said. "I'm sorry. I'm rooting, and we need this. Our backs are to the wall, so we're going to play as hard as we can and ROOT on the Vikings. I will definitely be keeping my eye on that game."

The Eagles, of course, know what has to happen for them to get into the playoffs. They have to win their final two games, against the Washington Redskins and Dallas Cowboys, and hope that either the Buccaneers or Falcons lose one of their final two games.

Cole can have an impact only on his team's game against the Redskins, and it seems likely that he will, especially since Washington will be without left tackle Chris Samuels, who was lost for the season to a triceps injury. Cole routinely describes Samuels as one of the toughest tackles he goes against in the NFL. Stephon Heyer will start his second straight game in place of Samuels.

"We're going to take advantage of every situation there is," Cole said. "There's some film on [Heyer]. I've been studying him and seeing what I can do against him."

The Eagles hope Cole has a Pro Bowl-type performance, even though he was not part of the NFC Pro Bowl roster this week. A year ago, Cole was disappointed about being the first alternate, but he was later added to the team.

This year, Cole said he wasn't as upset about being a second alternate.

"I ain't mad," Cole said. "There were a lot of guys that had great seasons in front of me. I'm glad for them. I was disappointed last year . . . but all I can do is keep playing the game and doing my job. If the Pro Bowl comes, the Pro Bowl comes."

The NFC's three defensive ends are the Giants' Justin Tuck, Carolina's Julius Peppers , and Minnesota's Jared Allen.

Extra points If receiver Reggie Brown returns to the starting lineup tomorrow after being benched the last two games, he's coming back against a team he has had a lot of success against in the past. Brown has 29 catches for 428 yards and four touchdowns in seven career games against the Redskins. Slightly more than 18 percent of his career receiving yards and nearly a quarter of his career touchdowns have come against the Redskins. He's averaged four catches for 61 yards against the Redskins. His best game this season was an 84-yard effort against the Redskins. . . . Running back Brian Westbrook didn't practice yesterday, but he will play tomorrow. Westbrook (knee), tackle Jon Runyan (knee), linebacker Stewart Bradley (groin and back), running back Correll Buckhalter (knee), and safeties Brian Dawkins (back) and Quintin Demps (groin) were all listed as probable on the Eagles' injury report. . . . Guard Max Jean-Gilles said a plate and eight screws were inserted into his right leg when he underwent surgery earlier this month to repair a fractured fibula he suffered in the Thanksgiving night game against Arizona. "The doctor said it would take six months for me to get back to where I was at," Jean-Gilles said. "I'm shooting to be back by training camp."
