FOOTBALL GAME OF THE WEEK
The Conroe Tigers could get used to the postseason.

This is the second consecutive season the Tigers have earned a playoff berth under Football coach Roger Holtkamp. Though stumbling at the finish line, the Tigers plan on rebounding when they take to the field with District 13-5A co-champion Klein Forest.

Conroe dropped a 38-35 decision to The Woodlands College Park in its regular- season finale last week to finish third in the District 14-5A standings and enter the playoffs as the district's second seed in the Class 5A Division I playoffs.

ABOUT THE GAME

Matchup: Klein Forest Golden Eagles (8-1, 6-1) vs. Conroe Tigers (6-3, 3-2)

When: 7:30 p.m., Friday

Where: Moorhead Stadium

What's at stake: A playoff victory. The Tigers haven't tasted that sweet success in a while. District pride is also at stake. The district went 0-4 in the playoffs last season.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Klein Forest: RB Dominic Wilkins, QB Vernell Caldwell, WR Vernon Rogers.

Conroe: QB Ryan Glaspie, RB Lou Greenwood, WR Desmond Jones, LB Blake Cavil.

TEAM HIGHLIGHTS

Klein Forest: The Golden Eagles can move the Football. Running back Dominic Wilkins rushed for 1,163 yards (5.3 average) and 14 touchdowns during the nine-game regular season. "They've got an elite running game, running back," said Holtkamp, referring to Wilkins. "I know that they'll have a good defensive front as well. Quarterback Vernell Caldwell proved he could move the team through the air as well, passing for 953 yards and nine touchdowns. His favorite target is Vernon Rodgers, who has 599 yards and four touchdowns on 22 receptions.

Conroe: The Tigers missed a chance to share the District 14-5A championship but have the opportunity to win a playoff game. A ball-control offense rolled up more than 2,000 yards rushing during the regular season. Lou Greenwood churned out 707 yards with 11 touchdowns and Ryan Glaspie and D.D. Johnson combined for 922 yards and nine touchdowns. Glaspie can move it through the air as well.
