Plaxico Burress was due a $1-million installment on his signing bonus yesterday, but the Giants did not pay him, according to the NFL Players Association.
"We will file a claim in the appropriate forum to enforce his right to receive and keep the moneys entitled to him under his player contract," union spokesman Carl Francis said in an e-mail statement.
Burress was suspended from the team for the final four games of the season and placed on the season-ending non-Football injury list after accidentally shooting himself in the leg on Nov. 29. Besides losing out on four weeks' salary and this $1-million payout, the team also fined Burress an undisclosed amount.
The union filed a grievance over the suspension and fine on Tuesday. The issue of the $1 million will be handled separately.
Pacman finished?
Who would have thought that Adam Jones' career could end with an injury? The NFL Network is reporting that the neck injury suffered by the Cowboys cornerback is not only potentially season-ending but career-threatening. Jones, who just returned to the Cowboys after a six-game suspension for fighting with a security guard, missed the 2007 season while serving an NFL suspension. Cowboys coach Wade Phillips said Jones will miss Sunday's game.
Giant steps
There are four scenarios in which the Giants can earn a bye in the first week of the playoffs this weekend: a win against the Cowboys; a Vikings loss and a Falcons loss or tie; a Vikings loss and a Panthers win or tie; or a tie in the Vikings-Cardinals game ... Brandon Jacobs (knee), Justin Tuck (lower leg), Kareem McKenzie (back) and Domenik Hixon (ankle/foot) were starters who missed the workout. Jonathan Goff (hamstring) also sat out. CB Aaron Ross, who sprained his ankle on Sunday, was limited ... The Elias Sports Bureau took away Tuck's sack of Donovan McNabb on Sunday, instead scoring the play as a rush for minus-4 yards. McNabb slipped on the play and was touched down by Tuck, who now has 11 1/2 sacks ... Eli Manning garnered the eighth George Young Good Guy Award by the Giants' chapter of the Professional Football Writers of America.
