Eagles coach Andy Reid didn't sound like he is expecting injured running back Brian Westbrook to play Sunday night against the Chicago Bears.

Westbrook, the heart and soul of the Eagles' offense, injured his right ankle early in the second quarter of Sunday's 15-6 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. According to Reid, X-rays showed no fracture and an MRI showed no serious ligament damage.

"But there's a strain there," he said. "He was on crutches yesterday and is limping around today without the crutches. I guess that's a positive. We'll see how he does.

"It literally is a day-to-day situation. It'll be a race to get him ready for Sunday."

If Westbrook can't play Sunday, then Correll Buckhalter, Tony Hunt and Lorenzo Booker will share Westbrook's work load. Hunt, the team's starting fullback, also was hurt Sunday, suffering a concussion on the Eagles' first possession. But Reid said he thought Hunt would be ready to play by Sunday.

Buckhalter rushed for 43 yards on 10 carries against the Steelers. He also had six catches for 44 yards, including a 20-yard catch-and-run for the Eagles' only touchdown.

"I thought Buck played very well," Reid said Monday. "He was one of the bright spots on the offensive side there."

Without Westbrook, the Eagles managed just 185 total yards in the final three quarters.
