Pro Bowl right guard Shawn Andrews, who has missed the last 2 1/2 games with a lower back injury, probably will miss Sunday's important NFC East battle against the Washington Redskins and could be out for considerably longer than that.

Eagles head coach Andy Reid said Monday that Andrews' back feels "about the same" as it did last week. He said Andrews is expected to "see somebody" later this week, presumably a back specialist. He said surgery is not something the player or the team is thinking about right now, but didn't rule it out.

"We've got to find a way to get it better; that's what we've got to do," Reid said Monday.

Andrews, one of four offensive starters who sat out Sunday night's 24-20 loss to the Chicago Bears, injured his back in the second quarter of the Eagles' Week 2 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. Earlier, he had missed most of training camp and the preseason dealing with depression.

Third-year man Max Jean-Gilles has started the last two games at right guard for Andrews. At 360 pounds, he's a solid straight-ahead run-blocker but doesn't have Andrews' athleticism.

While neither Andrews nor wide receiver Kevin Curtis, who still is recovering from August surgery to repair a sports hernia, is expected to play Sunday, Reid is hopeful he'll get running back Brian Westbrook and tight end L.J. Smith back.

Westbrook missed the Bears game with an ankle injury he suffered the week before. He tested it before the game, but didn't suit up. Smith, who like Andrews has a lower back injury, has made improvement, Reid said. "It feels pretty good right now," the Eagles coach said.
