Philadelphia Eagles Notes, Quotes 2009-02-20
--The Eagles have hired former Green Bay Packers vice president Andrew Brandt as a consultant to assist club president Joe Banner in contract negotiations and salary cap management. Brandt will work with the Eagles through August. Brandt spent nine years with the Packers as their chief contract negotiator and salary cap man before resigning in 2008. He moved to Philadelphia and has been teaching Sports Law and Negotiations at the University of Pennsylvania's prestigious Wharton School of Business. He also is the founder and president of NFLPost.com, an online football website.

--Many NFL teams have reduced their scouting budget to save money in these tough economic times. But Eagles GM Tom Heckert said his team hasn't. "It's been a big issue with other teams," he said. "But we're doing the same things we do every year."

--The Eagles haven't taken a running back in the first or second round of the draft since Andy Reid was hired as the team's head coach in 1999. But with Brian Westbrook about to turn 30 and dealing with a chronically-ailing knee, that could be about to change. "We've never come out and said we would never take a running back that high," GM Tom Heckert said. "I think we would. We thought about guys last year. But we had Brian and Buck (Correll Buckhalter, who is an unrestricted free agent and probably won't be re-signed). But now, depending on what happens with Buck, there's probably more of a chance that we would take somebody (that early). And this year is a pretty good running back class."

QUOTE TO NOTE: "If we stay where we are, we think we're going to get two really good players." -- GM Tom Heckert, whose team has the 21st and 28th picks in the first round of the draft
