Philadelphia Eagles Notes, Quotes 2008-08-07
--Right guard hawn Andrews continues to be AWOL from camp, although coach Andy Reid said he has spoken to Andrews and that he is "just working through some personal issues." Reid added that Andrew's absence is excused, and the Pro Bowl guard told the Philadelphia Daily News that he is battling depression but could report to camp sometime this week.

"I'm willing to admit that I've been going through a very bad time with depression," Andrews said in his first public comments about his training camp absence. "I've finally decided to get professional help. It's not something that blossomed up overnight. I'm on medication, trying to get better."

Third-year man Max Jean-Gilles is the No. 1 right guard right now. "He has to take care of his business and get himself right and get back here," Reid said when asked if it wa critical that Andrews was missing camp. "With everything else, it doesn't matter right now."

--Defensive end Chris Clemons, who signed with the Eagles in the offseason after recording eight sacks last year with the Raiders, had to be taken to the hospital last week after suffering from severe dehydration. The hot, humid camp weather combined with a shortage of defensive linemen caused the dehydration. Clemons said he took many more reps than usual and it took its toll. "I remember parts of practice, and I remember sitting there getting water thrown on me," he said. "Once I got to the hospital, I was fine. It was one of those things where I couldn't tell what my body was doing. The thing about it is, your mind is just rambling everywhere. You just feel like you're out of breath." Clemons was released from the hospital later that same day. He returned to practice two days later.

--Rookie wide receiver DeSean Jackson, who is expected to be the Eagles' punt returner this season, missed a week of the team's June passing camp with a hamstring injury. Then, much to coach Andy Reid's dismay, he tweaked his hamstring again last week and sat out a day of practice. After some "encouragement" from Reid, though, Jackson made a miraculous recovery. "He needs to get healthy and get back out there is what he needs to do," Reid said after Jackson missed practice. Jackson needs to get as many practice reps as he can this summer so that he can increase his comfort level with Reid's West Coast Offense. Jackson had extra motivation to get back on the field. The team's injured players spend practice pushing monster-truck-sized tires around. "It's almost harder than the real practice," Jackson said. "In college (at Cal), when you're hurt, you never did things like that. It was new to me."
