The Eagles placed Pro Bowl RG Shawn Andrews on their reserve-did not report list after he failed to show up for the start of training camp. The reasons for his absence still aren't clear, but his agent insists it's not contract-related. The Eagles signed free agent G Cameron Stephenson to replace Andrews on the team's 80-man camp roster. Third-year man Max Jean-Gilles, who was supposed to compete with Todd Herremans for the starting left guard job, has been moved over to Andrews' right guard spot.

--G Cameron Stephenson was signed by the Eagles after starting RG Shawn Andrews failed to show up for the start of training camp.

--CB Lito Sheppard, who lost his starting left cornerback job when the Eagles signed Asante Samuel in March, is back as the starter there, if only temporarily. Samuel suffered a hamstring strain in the Eagles' first full-squad workout.

--G Shawn Andrews was placed on the team's reserve-did not report list. Andrews was a no-show for the start of training camp. The reason for his absence still is unclear, but the Eagles have made it clear it's an unexcused absence.

--WR DeSean Jackson, who is expected to be the team's season-opening punt returner, also will be given an opportunity to return kickoffs, even though he didn't do that in college.

--QB Kevin Kolb opened training camp as the team's No. 2 quarterback behind Donovan McNabb. Kolb, the team's top pick in the '07 draft, moved ahead of veteran A.J. Feeley on the depth chart.

BATTLE OF THE WEEK: Luke Lawton vs. Jason Davis vs. Jed Collins for the starting FB job -- The Eagles didn't re-sign Thomas Tapeh and plan to let these three duke it out for the starting job during training camp and the preseason.

OTHER BATTLE FRONTS: With Asante Samuel penciled in as the season-opening starting left cornerback, Lito Sheppard, a two-time Pro Bowler who had been the starter on the left side, will battle his best friend, Sheldon Brown, for the starting right corner job. ... Starting LG Todd Herremans, who didn't play particularly well last season, will have to beat out Max Jean-Gilles to hold on to his starting job. That battle is on hold for the moment, however, since Jean-Gilles has been moved over to the right side in Shawn Andrews' absence.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Rookie LB Joe Mays -- Mays, a sixth-round pick out of Division II North Dakota State, has made a good first impression in the team's early full-pad workouts, making several big hits and always being around the ball.

ROOKIE REPORT: DT Trevor Laws (second round) injured his foot before he reported to training camp and has yet to practice. ... WR DeSean Jackson (second round) seems to be picking up the Eagles offense well. He said the hamstring he injured in the June passing game is "95 percent better." He looked impressive against veteran CBs Lito Sheppard and Asante Samuel in one-on-one passing drills. ... DE Bryan Smith (third round) hasn't practiced yet. He's nursing a sore hamstring that he reported to camp with.

INJURY REPORT: CB Asante Samuel is out with a strained right hamstring. He injured his other hamstring in the team's June passing camp.

--DT Trevor Laws reported to camp with a foot injury and still hasn't practiced.

--DE Bryan Smith reported to camp with a hamstring injury and still hasn't practiced.

--DE Victor Abiamiri dislocated a bone in his right wrist during Sunday morning's practice. He consulted with team physician Peter DeLuca and team hand specialist John Taras, and the team said an update on further treatments and status will be announced at a later time.
