Defensive coordinator Jim Johnson has started integrating rookie safety Quintin Demps into his base package. The last couple of weeks, Demps, who also can play corner, has occasionally replaced cornerback Asante Samuel on first down. Samuel isn't a very good tackler. Demps obviously isn't as good a cover man as Samuel. But he's got sub-4.4 speed and gives the Eagles another guy on the field who can play the run on first down.

PLAYER NOTES

--WR Hank Baskett, who suffered an MCL knee sprain in the Cleveland game Monday night, didn't practice Wednesday and is questionable for Sunday's game against the Redskins.

--WR Reggie Brown, who has been deactivated for the past two games when the Eagles dressed only five wideouts, might play this week if Hank Baskett can't go because of his injured knee. Brown had four catches for 84 yards against the Redskins in their first meeting earlier this season.

--RT Jon Runyan didn't practice Wednesday. He's been playing on an injured knee. It won't keep him out of the game on Sunday, but he probably won't practice much if at all this week.

--WR Kevin Curtis didn't practice Wednesday. He is nursing a calf strain, but Andy Reid is hopeful he'll be able to play Sunday against Washington.

--RB Brian Westbrook, who hasn't practiced much the last few weeks because of a sore knee, practiced Wednesday. He'll play Sunday against the Redskins.

GAME PLAN: The Eagles didn't do a very good job of stopping the Redskins' running game in the first meeting, giving up 203 rushing yards in the 23-17 loss. Eagles have improved dramatically against the run since then. They've allowed just 2.7 yards per carry in their past five games. They'll focus on stopping Clinton Portis, who rushed for 145 yards against them in that first game.

MATCHUPS TO WATCH: Eagles WR DeSean Jackson vs. Redskins CB DeAngelo Hall -- Jackson has a team-high 58 catches but was held to one catch for 8 yards in the first game against the Redskins.

Eagles RDE Trent Cole vs. Redskins LT Stephon Heyer: Cole is the Eagles' best pass rusher. Heyer has been moved over from the right side to replace the injured Chris Samuel.

Eagles SLB Chris Gocong vs. Redskins TE Chris Cooley: Cooley had eight catches for 109 yards and a TD in first game against the Eagles.

INJURY IMPACT: The Eagles' most serious injury this week appears to be WR Hank Baskett's sprained knee. It won't have a big effect on the Eagles' offense, though, if he can't go. Reggie Brown, who has been deactivated the last two weeks and likely would replace him, had four catches for 84 yards against the Redskins earlier this season.
