Defensive coordinator Jim Johnson has started integrating rookie safety Quintin Demps into his base package. The last couple of weeks, Demps, who also can play corner, has occasionally replaced cornerback Asante Samuel on first down. Samuel isn't a very good tackler. Demps obviously isn't as good a cover man as Samuel. But he's got sub-4.4 speed and gives the Eagles another guy on the field who can play the run on first down.

-- WR Hank Baskett (knee) has been ruled out of Sunday's game. Reggie Brown will be active in Baskett's place.

-- WR Kevin Curtis (calf) is doubtful to play Sunday. "He did some things today and then we'll just see how he does here over the next couple of days," coach Andy Reid said.

--WR Reggie Brown will be active and should play a significant role Sunday with Hank Baskett (knee) out and Kevin Curtis (calf) doubtful, according to coach Andy Reid. "I think those guys, they would love to be out there, but we're fortunate to have Reggie here; somebody that's played quite a bit and kind of got moved out of the lineup there, due to numbers and the chemistry of the other guys playing," said Reid. Brown hasn't seen game action in three weeks. "I think he's excited about playing, that's what I think," said Reid. "I think he is excited to get in there and have a chance to get back on the field and play."

-- RT Jon Runyan, who is nursing a sore knee, was "moving around alright" on Friday, according to coach Andy Reid. "I'm not saying he's not sore, but he's moving around okay," said Reid.

-- G Mike McGlynn, a rookie fourth-rounder, is expected to start if LG Todd Herremans (ankle) can't play Sunday. "I think he'll be fine," coach Andy Reid said. "He's played all three positions and I think he understands the offense. He got a few snaps last week, on Monday. We'll just see how he does, but I would expect him, if he has to be in there or is asked to be in there, that he'll do a nice job."

-- LG Todd Herremans is questionable after spraining an ankle in Thursday's practice. He did not practice Friday. Coach Andy Reid said Mike McGlynn would start if Herremans can't play.

--RB Brian Westbrook did limited work in practice Thursday. He's been playing with a sore knee and the Eagles want to make sure he's OK for Sunday's game against Washington.

GAME PLAN: The Eagles didn't do a very good job of stopping the Redskins' running game in the first meeting, giving up 203 rushing yards in the 23-17 loss. Eagles have improved dramatically against the run since then. They've allowed just 2.7 yards per carry in their past five games. They'll focus on stopping Clinton Portis, who rushed for 145 yards against them in that first game.

MATCHUPS TO WATCH: Eagles WR DeSean Jackson vs. Redskins CB DeAngelo Hall -- Jackson has a team-high 58 catches but was held to one catch for 8 yards in the first game against the Redskins.

Eagles RDE Trent Cole vs. Redskins LT Stephon Heyer: Cole is the Eagles' best pass rusher. Heyer has been moved over from the right side to replace the injured Chris Samuel.

Eagles SLB Chris Gocong vs. Redskins TE Chris Cooley: Cooley had eight catches for 109 yards and a TD in first game against the Eagles.

INJURY IMPACT: The Eagles' most serious injury this week appears to be WR Hank Baskett's sprained knee. It won't have a big effect on the Eagles' offense, though, if he can't go. Reggie Brown, who has been deactivated the last two weeks and likely would replace him, had four catches for 84 yards against the Redskins earlier this season.

The other significant issue is LG Todd Herremans' ankle. If that keeps him out, rookie fourth-round pick Mike McGlynn would get his first NFL start.
