Philadelphia Eagles Strategy and Personnel 2008-12-25
Wide receiver Reggie Brown went from being a healthy inactive in the Eagles' wins over the Giants and Cleveland to playing 57 of 64 snaps in Sunday's 10-3 loss to Washington. The Eagles have six wideouts on their 53-man roster, but activated only five of them for the Giants and Browns games. Brown was the odd man out. He played Sunday because of injuries to Kevin Curtis and Hank Baskett. Brown had four catches for 47 yards. He caught a 17-yard pass on the goal line on the last play of the game but couldn't get into the end zone. If Curtis and Baskett both return this week, Brown probably will be inactive again.

PLAYER NOTES

--DE Victor Abiamiri probably will sit out Sunday's season finale against the Cowboys because of a sprain in his foot.

--RB Brian Westbrook continues to nurse a season-long knee injury and didn't practice Wednesday. He is expected to play Sunday against the Cowboys, though.

--RT Jon Runyan may be playing his last game for the Eagles Sunday. Runyan has been playing with a knee injury. He's in the final year of his contract and will be a free agent in March.

--WR Kevin Curtis, who missed Sunday's game with a calf strain, was limited in practice Wednesday, but hopes to play Sunday against the Cowboys.

--FS Brian Dawkins aggravated his back in Sunday's loss to Washington but he is expected to play in the regular-season finale against Dallas.

GAME PLAN: The Eagles hope to do something Sunday they couldn't do in their Week 2 loss to the Cowboys, which is pressure quarterback Tony Romo. In both of the Cowboys' last two losses, to Baltimore and Pittsburgh, Romo was under duress much of the game and threw a combined five interceptions. The Eagles hope to force him into turnovers Sunday.

MATCHUPS TO WATCH: Eagles RDE Trent Cole vs. Cowboys LT Flozell Adams -- Cole has fared well against taller tackles like the 6-8 Adams because he rushes low and is able to get under their pads.

Eagles C Jamaal Jackson vs. Cowboys NT Jay Ratliff: Ratliff is having an exceptional season. He made the Pro Bowl and has 71/2 sacks.

INJURY IMPACT: DE Victor Abiamiri, who has been taking the bulk of the snaps at left end in the Eagles' base package and then moving inside to tackle in their nickel package, suffered a sprain in his foot and probably won't play Sunday, which will make the Eagles more susceptible to the run. Juqua Parker, who rotates with Abiamiri, doesn't have Abiamiri's size and is essentially a pass-rush specialist.
